Today, we want to answer the question, “what is Kobo Plus”, so you can make an informed decision about whether or not to get it this subscription program for readers.
What is Kobo Plus?
Kobo Plus is just like Kindle Unlimited (KU), but instead of through Amazon, the books are featured on Kobo in their Kobo Plus subscription program. It’s available in several countries, including the United States (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Canada, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Denmark, and more countries.
Kobo Plus has over 1.5 million eBooks and over 150,000 audiobooks to choose from. The good news is that Kobo Plus is always adding new eBooks, audiobooks, and expanding into new countries.
The two big differences between KU and Kobo Plus are the cost, and that Kobo Plus is much better for authors.
As of publishing this article, a Kobo Plus subscription costs $7.99/month for unlimited eBooks or unlimited audiobooks, and $9.99/month if you want BOTH eBooks AND audiobooks. That sounds like a steal when you read as much books as Ash does. It basically pays for itself with just 2 eBooks or 1 audiobook.

In KU, authors must make their eBooks exclusive to Amazon and cannot sell or make them available for libraries. That means if someone pirates an author’s books, Amazon could not only take down their books, but the author could also lose their Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) account. Plus the ability to sell books from their site, which would affect a LOT of the author’s readers.
In Kobo Plus, an author can have all their books available to not only Kobo readers, but anywhere else the author wants to have them available, like libraries, Everand, Apple Books, Google Play Store, Barnes and Nobles, and retailers that do not have an exclusivity clause.

We understand that not everyone has the means to pay full cost for our books, and that’s one reason we added our books to the Kobo Plus subscription program. That way, readers who access books through libraries, Libby, Everand (formerly Scribd), Hoopla, etc. can still enjoy our romance novels without breaking the bank.

Is Kobo Plus worth it?
The answer to this question depends on how many books and/or audiobooks you read or purchase in a month.
If you spend less than the cost of the subscription on books every month, then it might not be worth it. Like every subscription service, you want to make sure you get your money’s worth.
